2019 Yamagata-Oki Earthquake Preliminary Results of Differential Interferometric SAR (DInSAR) Analysis
This is the result of differential interferometric SAR processing using SAR data from Sentinel-1 satellite operated by the ESA, acquired before and after the 2019 Yamagata-Oki Earthquake (June 18, 2019, 22:22 JST).
[Contained Modified Copernicus Sentinel-1 Data [2019]]
The interferogram was generated from Sentinel-1 C-band SAR data acquired on June 8 and June 20, 2019. The left figure shows the phase of the differential interferogram, where concentric phase changes can be observed in the mountainous area near the epicenter of the June 18 earthquake. These changes may likely reflect the distribution pattern of ground deformation caused by the earthquake. The right figure shows the SAR line-of-sight displacement converted from phase, indicating that the concentric phase changes correspond to surface displacement of up to approximately 5 cm away from the satellite. Please note that these results are preliminary, and corrections for atmospheric delays (such as water vapor effects) have not been applied.
